Some people with Mental Health Disorders continue to "Put themselves down" or "Beat themselves up" with an invisible stick. This is in itself a symptom of Mental Illness. Feeling low sometimes makes you feel as if your not doing well enough or that you must be doing something wrong, after all why would you feel like this if you were doing everything right? Well, its a symptom, its not a big stick and you have to stop using it to hit yourself over the head with. What I find helps is to tell myself that "I did well enough given the circumstances I had at the time" and if I did a really good job, I say "Whoah Yeah" I got through that quite well and give myself an invisible pat on the back ! Its the continued reinforcement of good things that you do that should help you navigate away from the bad habit of putting yourself down and the outcome hopefully will be a happier mental state. I think we must remember that we are tackling this world whilst also tackling some pretty serious mind and mood disorders so really we are being courageous on a daily basis by even making the tiniest step outside our door. So remember "you are good enough, as you are right now, doing the best you can with the circumstances you have at any given time" Claire Louise Jones
